Capitalization Rules

Capitalization is essential for clarity and proper nouns in English grammar.

Always Capitalize:

  • The first word of a sentence.
  • The pronoun "I": My friend and I went to the store.
  • Proper Nouns (Names of specific people, places, brands): John, Paris, Microsoft.
  • Days of the week, months, and holidays: Monday, August, Christmas. (Note: Do NOT capitalize seasons like summer or winter).
  • Nationalities and languages: She is French and speaks Spanish.
  • Titles preceding names: President Lincoln, Doctor Smith.
