Imperative Sentences

Imperative sentences are used to give commands, make requests, offer advice, or give instructions.

Formation

The subject is almost always an implied "you", so the sentence starts directly with the base form of the verb.

Close the door.
Please sit down.
Turn left at the next traffic light.

Negative Imperatives

To make a negative command, start with "Do not" or "Don't" followed by the base verb.

Don't touch that!
Do not forget your umbrella.

Let's (Suggestions)

To include yourself in the command as a suggestion, use "Let's" (Let us).

Let's go to the beach.
Let's not argue about this.
