Interjections
An interjection is a word or short phrase used to express sudden or strong emotion. They have no grammatical connection to the rest of the sentence.
Common Interjections
- Surprise/Joy: Wow, yay, oh, ah.
- Pain: Ouch, ow.
- Hesitation: Uh, um, er.
- Disgust: Ew, yuck.
Punctuation
If the emotion is strong, use an exclamation mark, and start the next sentence with a capital letter.
Wow! That was amazing.
If the emotion is mild, use a comma, and continue the sentence normally.
Oh, I didn't know that.
