Just like a subject complement describes the subject, an object complement follows and describes or renames the direct object. It is essential to the meaning of the sentence.

Common Verbs Used

Make, call, name, elect, consider, paint, find.

Noun as Object Complement (Renaming)

They elected him president. (Him = president)
We named our dog Max. (Dog = Max)

Adjective as Object Complement (Describing)

The news made her happy. (Her = happy)
I consider the issue closed.
He painted the door red.
