Present Continuous
The present continuous tense describes actions happening right now or around the current time.
Formation
Subject + am/is/are + verb-ing
I am reading a book. She is cooking dinner. They are playing outside.
When to Use
- Actions happening now: He is sleeping right now.
- Temporary situations: I am staying with my cousin this week.
- Future arrangements: We are meeting them tomorrow.
- Trends and changes: The climate is getting warmer.
Non-Continuous Verbs
Some verbs are rarely used in continuous form: know, believe, understand, love, hate, want, need, prefer.
