Sentence Structures
Varying your sentence structure makes your writing more interesting. There are three main types.
1. Simple Sentence
Contains one independent clause (one subject and one verb).
The dog barked loudly.
2. Compound Sentence
Contains two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS) or a semicolon.
The dog barked loudly, so the cat ran away.
3. Complex Sentence
Contains one independent clause and at least one dependent clause (joined by a subordinating conjunction).
When the dog barked loudly, the cat ran away.
