Verbs + Object + Infinitive
A common English sentence structure is used when a subject wants/needs an object to perform an action.
The Structure
Subject + Verb + Object + To-Infinitive
Common Verbs Used
Want, need, expect, ask, tell, advise, invite, allow, encourage.
Examples
I want you to clean your room. She asked him to leave. The doctor advised me to rest. We expect them to arrive at noon.
Common Mistake
Do NOT use "that" with these verbs in this context.
Incorrect: I want that you clean your room.
Correct: I want you to clean your room.
